Russell County Habitat for Humanity, Inc. was formed in 1997 and is a recognized affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.  The goal of Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to make adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action.  A non-profit, ecumenical organization, Habitat has built more that 60,000 houses around the world.

Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families who help with their own "sweat equity."  Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, finances with affordable, no-interest loans.  As homeowners pay their monthly mortgage, funds are recycled into a revolving fund that is used to build more houses.

Habitat invites persons from all walks of life to join in this Christian housing ministry both as financial contributors and volunteer workers.
